The Feed Lake Highlands Homework Club is looking for volunteers to help with the reading program. If you have a passion for kids and literacy, we would love to have you join our team!
Our most urgent need for volunteers is Thursdays from 3 to 5 pm. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please click the volunteer link on this page and note your interest in the form.
Story Time Leaders:
One of the most effective ways to create joy for reading in children is to read to them. At Homework Club, we do this with storytime! Storytime is a time when kids play, imagine and have fun!
Guided Reading Facilitators:
We help children become readers with a fun, safe reading time. Facilitators work with small groups of two to six children. The facilitator talks about the story before, during and after the reading, gives help when reading, focuses on the story, gives praise and helps the kids enjoy the book over and over again! The kids read to themselves silently while the facilitator helps with phrasing and fluency and prompts for self-correction of errors. Students gain proficiency, fluency, and confidence!
Please join us for an information session Thursday, April 21 from 3:30-4:30 at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church in Room A114 of the administrative wing. Park in the parking lot off Plano Road by the dumpster.
Please RSVP for the information session here.
