Sharing Life Awards Feed Lake Highlands Partner of the Year!

Our food ministry is something we are known for, and it sometimes confuses people that we have other components to our ministry. We feed the body, mind, and spirit, and we put a lot of love and care into each component. But, our food ministry is what we are known for.

We distribute food three times a month to 210 households, which is about 700 individuals. This is the largest our program has ever been, and we are so thankful for the growth journey that this program has taken us on. We continue to adapt our program and ourselves to serve those that are living at or below the poverty line in the Lake Highlands Community. And while in our program timeline there are many defining moments where our program changed drastically, there have also been great components of consistency. Aside from our Team Members who have been with us since the beginning, Sharing Life, our North Texas Food Bank “hub,” has been the most consistent aspect to our ministry.

We are so thankful for our partnership with Sharing Life. It has been special to serve alongside Sharing Life, and to have a “hub” that cares about our ministry. The team at Sharing Life has helped us provide well-balanced supplemental groceries to our program members for years now. They were the ones we consulted when we were contemplating opening up a third day of distribution late last year, and their encouragement for our program is ever present.

Each year all the Community Distribution Partners meet at Sharing Life for yearly training and updates - and awards!
This year, Feed Lake Highlands was named Sharing Life’s “Partner of the Year.” The team at Sharing Life recognized our ministry and our “resourcefulness” due to all that we are doing out of the New Room Community Center.

“The New Room has been full of growth this last year. They added an additional day of distribution, held community events to help educate the community,” explained Wendy Hardeman, Sharing Life Hub Coordinator. “New Room saw a problem with people getting food back to their homes, and solved the issue by providing carts to their clients. What a difference this has made for some of them that would otherwise not be able to receive food. The New Room offers many other programs for kids including afterschool and summer camps. We are extremely honored to be partnered with the New Room and Feed Lake Highlands.”

We are honored by the recognition and so thankful for the food credit we received alongside the award, which will cover the cost of one Wednesday of distribution. This award was definitely not expected, but we are oh so honored.
