We are so excited to see the growth in our Homework Club. Under the leadership of Homework Club coordinator Joy Martin, we have added lots of new folks to the program and the team! We now have 37 students on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Rotating between those afternoons and overseeing homework and enrichment activities are 28 team members.
We are celebrating the success of several of our students this semester. They have graduated from the Skyview tutoring program! Now they are able to come to The New Room on both afternoons and focus on completing homework assignments with much less stress.
Tammy Ford is back and so are Wacky Wednesdays! Every 2nd Wednesday she leads an afternoon of silliness filled with snacks, craft activities and a Charlie Brown seasonal movie. Also back this year is our emphasis on serving others. The students and team spent much time this semester making placemats and writing notes to prisoners for a Kairos event in October. The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.
We have a special new volunteer! Genesis is a unique member of our team. She was once a Homework Club student! Now she comes back, helping at Ms. Patsy's math table. When asked why she keeps coming back Genesis said, "I like to keep coming to be around the leaders and my friends. And I like to learn about Jesus."
If you are interested in volunteering with the Homework Club, we would love to hear from you!
