On Saturday, January 26th students and their parents from our EPIC and START After School Clubs came to The New Room Community Center to learn more about Kids Across America Camp and Pine Cove Camp in the City. Feed Lake Highlands took 84 students to both camps last summer, and we already have 41 campers registered this year. We are looking forward to this summer and cannot wait to get students registered!Read more

Over this past week, I have met with many of our Food Distribution Team Members. Throughout these meetings, as I was going over new procedures, I could not help but think about the beginnings of the program and where God has brought us. It is such a beautiful thing to think about and a true picture of God’s provision to not only those living at or below the poverty line in Lake Highlands, but to those who are in ministry with us.Read more

Thanks to all our sponsors, players and guests we are much closer to purchasing a box truck and a 15 passenger van. These vehicles will help us pick-up food more efficiently and serve our program members better than ever. We are so grateful and blessed for your support.
Recently I was reminded of Jesus’s words on giving.
Jesus says in Luke chapter six, verse 38: “Give, and it will be given to you a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
In our faith we are called to give as much as we can, as many times as we can and we will be blessed immensely – more than we can imagine. And if anyone but Jesus were giving that incentive, I would argue it assumes that as we give we are only thinking about ourselves and our reward for giving.
However, I think that my initial reaction is skewed from an Earthly perspective. Throughout our lives, we are taught how to share and how to be kind to one another, but then something switches, we begin to think about how we can get ahead and how helping others will only delay our goals and accomplishments. Being sacrificial with our time and our resources is frowned upon. The whole concept of sacrifice has become a sign of weakness or people pleasing.
But, as I think through Jesus’s words with my experiences, I can wholeheartedly say giving is selfish.Read more
On August 27th, Feed Lake Highlands is hosting the fourth annual Topgolf Tournament. You may have seen our Facebook posts or a blurb in the newsletter, or the promotional posters around the church all prominently displaying our call to action: “Take a swing at hunger in Lake Highlands.” As you read the poster, the saying may have caused you to laugh or admire how fitting the saying is for a golf tournament. And it may have started that way, but as I think about that call to action for this year’s tournament, I think about the ways the ministries of Feed Lake Highlands continue to “take a swing.”Read more
